Simple X Lip Care™
Specialized Botanical Care That Dries, Calms, and Heals so Your Lips Can Recover
For sensitive lips—especially lips prone to recurring cold sores or fever blisters—when a heavy, oily balm is exactly what you don't want.
Simple X Lip Care™ was created around an unusual formulation challenge: how do you care for a sensitive, compromised-feeling lip area without continually coating it in oils and waxes?
Our answer was to formulate Simple X completely differently.
Simple X is oil-free and fast-drying. A very thin layer delivers a concentrated combination of Goldenseal, Lemon Balm, Gotu Kola, Colloidal Silver, Iodine, Hyaluronic Acid, Fulvic Acid, and complementary botanicals, then dries down rather than leaving the area covered in a greasy film.
That creates the balance we wanted from the beginning: a formula that allows the surface to dry while simultaneously providing soothing, calming, and conditioning botanical care.
The formula is built within Ætherbal’s Orthosilicic Acid-based delivery platform. The molecular size of key components is selected with the skin barrier in mind, while the oil-free composition makes Simple X distinctly different from both conventional lip balm and the majority of Ætherbal topicals.
Dry down. Soothe. Calm. Care for the area.
Simple X isn't a lip balm with a few herbs added.
It was purpose-built for the times when your lips need something entirely different from a balm.
✨ What Makes Simple X Different?
Most lip products are designed around one fundamental idea: coat the lips.
Oils, waxes, butters, and occlusive ingredients create a layer over the surface. That can make perfect sense for ordinary dry lips.
Simple X was created for a different situation.
It dries instead of coating
Simple X contains no botanical oils, butters, or waxes. Apply a very thin layer and allow it to dry. This gives the area botanical care without keeping it continually covered in a greasy layer.
Drying and soothing aren't opposites
We didn't want a formula that simply dried the area and left it feeling neglected. Goldenseal and the fast-drying base are balanced with Lemon Balm, Gotu Kola, Hyaluronic Acid, and Lavender to provide a more thoughtful combination of drying, soothing, calming, and conditioning care.
Purpose-built for cold-sore-prone lips
Simple X wasn't an everyday lip balm that we later repositioned for sensitive lips. The formula was developed specifically around the needs of lips prone to recurring cold sores and fever blisters.
A concentrated botanical-mineral formula
Goldenseal, Lemon Balm, Gotu Kola, Colloidal Silver, Iodine, Fulvic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Turmeric create a formula unlike an ordinary cosmetic lip product.
Two years in development
Simple X began as a personal formulation project and was refined over approximately two years before becoming an Ætherbal product.
Sometimes the best thing for your lips isn't another layer of balm.
🌿 Why These Ingredients?
Every major ingredient was selected for a specific role in this unusual formula.
- Goldenseal — Traditional clarifying botanical; supports the formula's drying character
- Lemon Balm — Soothing botanical tradition; particularly associated with lip-focused herbal care
- Gotu Kola — Skin renewal; supports the appearance of recovering skin
- Lavender — Soothing botanical care; sensitive-feeling skin
- Eucalyptus — Cooling, refreshing character; complements the clarifying formula
- Rosemary — Invigorating botanical tradition; complements the aromatic blend
- Turmeric — Botanical antioxidant support; traditional skin care
- Hyaluronic Acid — Hydration and conditioning; balances the fast-drying formula
- Fulvic Acid — Component of Ætherbal’s mineral-based formulation system
- Colloidal Silver — Mineral component; part of Simple X's distinctive formulation
- Potassium Iodine — Iodine component; part of the specialized mineral-botanical formula
- Orthosilicic Acid — Water-soluble silicon; foundation of Ætherbal’s delivery technology
The objective is not simply to dry the area or simply to moisturize it.
Simple X was formulated to do something more nuanced: allow the surface to dry while continuing to soothe, calm, and care for it.
For Cold-Sore-Prone Lips
Simple X was developed specifically with recurring cold-sore- and fever-blister-prone lips in mind.
That makes it fundamentally different from an everyday lip moisturizer.
When the area feels sensitive or when you recognize that familiar change in how your lip feels, Simple X can be incorporated into your external lip-care routine without covering the area in the heavy oils and waxes found in conventional balms.
Simple X is a personal-care topical, not an antiviral drug or cold-sore medication. Cold sores are associated with herpes simplex virus, and Simple X has not been clinically demonstrated to treat, shorten, prevent, or eliminate a herpes outbreak.
How to Use
Apply a very thin layer externally to the affected area of the lip and allow it to dry completely.
More is not better. Simple X was designed to be used as a thin, targeted layer rather than applied heavily like a conventional lip balm.
Reapply as needed as part of your personal-care routine.
Because the formula is intentionally fast-drying, you may notice the area feels different from skin treated with a waxy or oil-based lip product. That is part of the design.
For external use only. Do not apply inside the mouth. Avoid the eyes and other mucous membranes. Do not ingest. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
✨ What to Expect
Simple X doesn't feel like lip balm.
It applies lightly and then dries down, leaving little of the oily or waxy coating associated with conventional lip products.
At the same time, Lemon Balm, Gotu Kola, Lavender, and Hyaluronic Acid help give the formula its soothing, calming, and conditioning character.
Lavender, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary contribute a fresh, distinctly botanical aroma and sensation.
The experience is intentionally different:
Light. Targeted. Fast-drying. Soothing. Clean.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Simple X different from ordinary lip balm?
Almost everything about the formulation philosophy is different.
Traditional lip balms generally rely on oils, waxes, and butters to create an occlusive coating over the lips.
Simple X is oil-free and fast-drying. It was designed to deliver its botanical and mineral ingredients in a thin layer that dries down rather than continually coating the area.
Why would I want a lip product that dries?
Because Simple X wasn't designed primarily for ordinary chapped lips.
It was created for sensitive, cold-sore-prone areas where we wanted to balance two seemingly opposite goals: allow the surface to dry while continuing to provide soothing and conditioning botanical care.
That's why the formula contains both ingredients contributing to its drying, clarifying character and ingredients such as Lemon Balm, Gotu Kola, Hyaluronic Acid, and Lavender that complement it with soothing and conditioning care.
Does Simple X treat cold sores?
Simple X was specifically formulated with cold-sore- and fever-blister-prone lips in mind, but it is a personal-care topical rather than an antiviral medication.
It has not been clinically demonstrated to treat herpes simplex virus, eliminate cold sores, prevent outbreaks, or shorten their duration.
When should I apply it?
Simple X can be incorporated into your personal-care routine whenever a cold-sore-prone area of the lip needs additional attention.
Apply only a very thin layer and allow it to dry.
Should I put lip balm over it?
Simple X was intentionally designed to provide an alternative to continuously coating the area with an oil-and-wax-based product.
If you choose to use another lip product as well, allow Simple X to dry completely first. Keep in mind that adding a heavy occlusive balm changes the dry-down environment Simple X was designed to create.
Why is Lemon Balm included?
Lemon Balm, or Melissa officinalis, has a particularly long history in botanical preparations for lip care and is one of the central herbs around which Simple X was developed.
Its inclusion reflects both traditional herbal practice and the specialized purpose of the formula.
Why are Colloidal Silver and Iodine included?
They are part of the distinctive mineral-botanical composition of Simple X and contribute to what makes the formula different from an ordinary cosmetic lip product.
Their inclusion should not be interpreted as a claim that Simple X has been demonstrated to kill herpes simplex virus or treat an infection.
The Science Behind Our Patent-Pending Delivery System
Skin is designed to be a barrier, which makes topical delivery a formulation challenge. Simple X presents an additional challenge because we wanted to create a formula without relying on the oil-rich phase used in many conventional lip products.
At its foundation is Orthosilicic Acid, with a molecular mass of approximately 96 Daltons. Research in skin-permeation science commonly references an approximately 500-Dalton guideline, with smaller molecules generally having greater potential for passive penetration than larger molecules, although molecular size is only one of several factors influencing skin permeation.
Our formulation also incorporates Hyaluronic Acid selected with molecular weight in mind. Research has demonstrated that low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid can move beyond the stratum corneum under experimental conditions, while higher-molecular-weight forms are predominantly retained closer to the surface.
Simple X then combines this foundation with botanical extracts, mineral components, and aromatic compounds in an intentionally oil-free, fast-drying formulation.
This makes Simple X somewhat different from Ætherbal formulas built around a more pronounced amphiphilic oil-and-water architecture. Its formulation was adapted to the specific purpose of the product: targeted botanical care that can dry down rather than leave behind an oily film.
Controlled permeation testing of the finished Simple X formula has not established penetration depth, flux, skin retention, or antiviral activity. The formulation architecture represents the scientific rationale behind how the product was designed rather than proof of a particular therapeutic effect.
The delivery system was adapted to the need—not the other way around.
Specialized Lip Care, Delivered Differently.
Simple X began because conventional lip products weren't providing the kind of care we wanted.
So we stopped thinking about what a lip balm was supposed to be.
No oils. No waxy coating. No heavy layer sitting on the lips.
Instead, we developed a concentrated botanical-mineral formula that could dry down while simultaneously soothing, calming, and caring for sensitive skin.
It took approximately two years of formulation work to become Simple X.
Not another lip balm. A different approach to specialized lip care.
For external personal-care use only. Simple X Lip Care™ is not an antiviral drug and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent cold sores, herpes simplex virus, or any other disease. Persistent, severe, unusual, or concerning lip lesions should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional.
