Lighten the Load
Broad-Spectrum Botanical Comfort for Complex, Changing Body Needs
For widespread, shifting or difficult-to-describe discomfort—especially when more than one type of discomfort is happening at once.
Lighten the Load is Ætherbal’s most broad-spectrum comfort formula, created for the person whose body doesn’t fit neatly into one category. You may have deep, persistent discomfort in one area, stiffness and aching in another, sharp or nerve-like sensations somewhere else, or simply feel sore, sensitive and overworked throughout your body. Rather than building the formula around one sensation or one body area, we selected a diverse group of botanicals with complementary roles across many different patterns of discomfort.
What makes Lighten the Load distinctly Ætherbal isn’t only the range of herbs we selected, but how we formulated them. Whole plants contain a complex mixture of compounds—some more compatible with water and others with oils. Our patent-pending amphiphilic delivery system was designed around both environments and around one of the biggest challenges with topical products: getting beneficial botanical compounds through the skin’s protective barrier.
When your discomfort is complicated, your formula should be capable of complexity too.
Best for: Widespread • Shifting • Deep • Persistent • Stiff • Achy • Sharp • Nerve-like • Tender • Sensitive • Tight • Cramping • Overworked • Multiple sensations at once
🌿 Why These Botanicals?
Lighten the Load draws from Traditional Chinese herbal formulation, Western herbalism and modern botanical research. Each herb was selected to contribute something different to the formula’s unusually broad comfort profile.
- Corydalis — Deep, persistent discomfort; difficult-to-ignore sensations
- Bai Zhi — Stubborn, concentrated discomfort; tenderness
- White Peony — Tight, cramping discomfort; sensitive areas
- St. John’s Wort — Sharp, stabbing discomfort; nerve-like sensations
- Ginkgo — Sensitive, nerve-like discomfort; circulation support
- Black Seed — Tender, sore areas; sensitive discomfort
- Dan Shen — Supports circulation; deep, fixed discomfort
- Ginger — Stiff, achy areas; warming comfort
- Turmeric — Achy, stiff areas; joint-centered comfort
- Black Pepper — Warming support; stiff, cold-feeling areas
- Rosemary — Tired, stiff muscles; overworked areas
- Eleuthero + Astragalus — Physically depleted body; whole-body support
Together, these botanicals create a formula that doesn’t require your body to choose one spot—or one kind of discomfort.
How to Use
Apply a small amount to the areas where additional comfort is desired and gently massage into the skin until absorbed.
Because Lighten the Load was created for broad and changing body-care needs, the areas of application can change with you. Use it on one area today and several areas tomorrow as desired. It can be incorporated into your daily routine or used when your body needs additional support.
For external use only. Avoid the eyes, mucous membranes and broken or irritated skin. Do not ingest. Discontinue use if irritation occurs.
New, severe, unexplained, persistent or worsening pain should be evaluated by a qualified healthcare professional rather than managed solely with a topical product.
What to Expect
Lighten the Load was designed for use across multiple areas without the heavy, greasy coating associated with many conventional botanical balms.
Its aroma reflects the formula itself. Ginger, Turmeric and Black Pepper provide warmth; Rosemary and Balsam Fir contribute a fresh herbal character; Bergamot and Sweet Orange brighten the profile; while Frankincense, Myrrh and Copaiba add deeper resinous notes.
The formula spreads easily and becomes lightweight on the skin shortly after application.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Lighten the Load best suited for?
Lighten the Load is our broad-spectrum choice when your discomfort is widespread, changes from place to place, involves several areas, or simply cannot be described with one word.
You might describe yourself as achy and stiff, tender and sensitive, or deep and persistent. You may experience sharp or nerve-like sensations alongside ordinary muscular soreness. Or different areas of your body may need different kinds of support at the same time.
That complexity is exactly why Lighten the Load exists.
What if my discomfort moves or changes from day to day?
That is one of the primary reasons we created Lighten the Load.
The formula was designed for people whose needs may move, change or involve several areas simultaneously. Where you apply it can change from day to day along with what your body is experiencing.
What if my discomfort feels sharp, stabbing or nerve-like?
St. John’s Wort and Ginkgo are two of the botanicals that broaden Lighten the Load beyond an ordinary muscle-and-joint formula. They were selected in part for the sensitive and nerve-like side of the formula’s botanical profile.
Lighten the Load is not intended to diagnose or treat neuropathy or another neurological condition.
What if I mostly feel stiff and achy?
Lighten the Load contains Ginger, Turmeric, Black Pepper and Rosemary, giving it a strong botanical profile for areas that feel stiff, achy, tired and overworked.
If the discomfort followed a significant impact, injury or physical trauma, Silica Dit Da Jow may be the more specifically aligned Ætherbal formula.
How is Lighten the Load different from Silica Dit Da Jow?
Lighten the Load: Widespread, shifting, complex or multiple kinds of discomfort at once.
Silica Dit Da Jow: Significant impact, physical trauma, post-injury or post-training areas that feel bruised, deeply sore, tender, stiff or overworked.
Both are complex botanical formulas, but they were created around very different patterns of need.
The Science Behind Our Patent-Pending Delivery System
Skin is designed to be a barrier, which makes topical delivery a formulation challenge. Ætherbal’s patent-pending delivery system was developed around two important considerations: molecular size and the need to work with both water- and oil-compatible botanical compounds.
Research has demonstrated that molecules below 500 Daltons are more likely to pass through the skin barrier. At the foundation of our system is Orthosilicic Acid, with a molecular mass of approximately 96 Daltons, well below the approximately 500-Dalton molecular-size guideline commonly discussed in skin-permeation science.
Whole-plant extracts add another layer of complexity, but a vast majority of the active constituents of plants are at or below 500 Daltons, making them excellent candidates for topical delivery. This is particularly relevant to Lighten the Load because its extensive botanical matrix contains many different classes of plant compounds with different chemical characteristics. Our amphiphilic system was designed to work with both water- and oil-compatible constituents rather than forcing this chemically diverse formula into a predominantly water- or oil-based vehicle.
The herbs are the botanical intelligence. Our delivery system is the formulation technology.
Botanical Medicine, Delivered Differently.
Deep. Achy. Stiff. Sharp. Tender. Sensitive. Overworked. Shifting.
Your body doesn’t always experience discomfort in one place, for one reason, or in one way. Lighten the Load was created for that complexity.
