The Science Behind Our Patent-Pending Delivery System

Skin is designed to be a barrier, which makes topical delivery a formulation challenge.

Ætherbal’s patent-pending delivery technology was developed around important formulation considerations including molecular size and the ability to accommodate ingredients with different chemical characteristics.

At its foundation is Orthosilicic Acid, with a molecular mass of approximately 96 Daltons. Research in skin-permeation science commonly references an approximately 500-Dalton guideline, with smaller molecules generally having greater potential for passive penetration than larger molecules, although molecular size is only one of several factors affecting skin permeation.

Our system also incorporates Hyaluronic Acid selected with molecular weight in mind. Research has demonstrated that low-molecular-weight Hyaluronic Acid can move beyond the stratum corneum under experimental conditions, while higher-molecular-weight forms are predominantly retained closer to the surface.
